What You''ll Do:

Maintains energy center, facilities systems, and equipment to provide a safe, efficient, and comfortable workplace. This position is responsible for management of advanced and specialized boiler operator maintenance necessary to ensure the effective facilities operations.  Additional responsibilities include operation, repair, and preventative maintenance of all building equipment, contractor oversight for installation or repair of equipment, and other related duties. Manages technicians in developing methods and procedures to control or improve Facilities processes. 

Main Responsibilities:

  • Supervises a team of 10 boiler operators and maintenance technicians in executing timely repairs and preventive maintenance activities.
  • Provides boiler operator coverage as required and manages energy center operators on day-to-day responsibilities serving as the primary contact for afterhours emergencies.
  • Proficient in analyzing boiler performance data and making adjustments as needed.
  • Performs routine repairs and maintenance of pilot plant, lab, and energy center equipment including hot water and steam boilers, chillers, air handlers, air compressors, cooling tower, heat exchangers, refrigeration equipment, etc. Use of hand or power tools as required.
  • Focus on mentoring and coaching employees to develop talent and foster employee growth in a team environment. Provide timely coaching, counseling, and feedback.
  • Works with outside contractors on facilities equipment and small to large size maintenance projects obtaining quotes, scheduling work, coordination shutdowns, providing supervision, and owning maintaining open communication.
  • Makes routine, periodic, or special inspections to determine repair and maintenance work necessary to prevent breakdowns of facilities, machinery, and equipment.
  • Assists with development of long-range plan for facility equipment upgrades and proposes changes based on latest equipment available and business needs.
  • Interprets drawings, sketches, layouts, wiring diagrams, and specifications.
  • Ability to research and develop maintenance procedures from manufacture's manuals, drawings and documentation provided from the install of the equipment and or systems.
  • Operate all equipment in a safe and efficient manner, reporting accidents/incidents and adhering to all corporate/division/plant policies, procedures, and guidelines. Follow all LOTO procedures and other safety and quality procedures within the maintenance department.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE YOU'LL BRING:

  • Education: H.S. diploma or equivalent plus 10+ years of related work experience or equivalent combination.
  • Certification: Minimum of an Ohio Third-Class Stationary Engineer’s License Required.
  • Experience: Prior proven leadership experience required with an emphasis on supervision of direct reports and influencing senior leadership.
  • Must show ability to react quickly and properly to emergencies (such as loss of steam air, refrigeration, potable water, chilled water, etc.).
  • Excellent skills in written/verbal communication, self-motivation, interpersonal professional interactions, analytical troubleshooting, and ability to multitask prioritizing requirements.
  • Must demonstrate a broad knowledge of utilities systems and ability to train less experienced personnel.


The base pay for this position is $72,700.00 – $145,300.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
